Note: My review below is not for the chair currently shown but for the one prior to this one. I don't know what other differences there are but this one pictured states it has a wider wheelbase and that would be a dealbreaker for me since one of the reasons I loved this one was BECAUSE of the smaller wheelbase.I had a chair previously with a wider wheelbase and due to limited room between my 'computer desk/counter' and my patient chair, the wheels stuck out just enough to trip my elderly patients. Also, I seemed to always be tripping over the wheels, myself. When I purchased this chair that had the smaller wheelbase it no longer stuck out from under my desk, nor did I myself have any more tripping problems. If you purchase this chair with the wider wheelbase, make sure your room/operatory is big enough that you and/or your patients won't be tripping over the wheels all the time. I can tell you from prior experience it is very annoying and potentially dangerous! After owning one of the 'lily pad' or 'English style' saddle chairs for 15 years and rarely using it because it put painful pressure against nerves in the back of my thighs, I recently bought this chair. It is AWESOME in every way!!! ♡♡♡When trying to decide which chair to purchase I was concerned that the way the front edge slopes upward, it might prevent me from getting close enough to my patient chair/patient but it does not. Probably at least partly because I do tend to sit fairly close to the front edge of the seat. This front part is also much narrower than the back part of the seat which is the part the measurement in the picture shows.I am only 4'10", with an average body frame and this chair fits me extremely well. It does not make me spread my legs so wide, like my other chair did, that created such nerve pain on the backs of my thighs. With this chair the pressure from sitting goes more to my pelvis area instead of my thighs and I have no pain at all. My thighs lie against the more vertically angled 'sides' of the seat in a very natural and comfortable position. Thanks also to the style of the chair and the way it slopes upward at the front of it(Slightly similar to the upward slope of a western saddle, but without the pommel, of course) I am actually able to lean slightly forward, if necessary, without falling onto my patient as would happen with a regular chair or my other style saddle chair. This is especially helpful when I have very large/wide patients since I am very short waisted and cannot always reach their mouths while sitting unless I lean forward. Previous to getting this chair I ALWAYS had to stand with these patients.I almost purchased a different chair that did not have a tilt function, but am VERY glad I got this one. I change the tilt from time to time depending on my patient and/or how much I have them reclined. This tilt function action is also MUCH better than the one on my other style stool. It had a screw style handle to change the tilt that was a pain, took a long time and was difficult to get tight enough to hold in place. This stool uses a lever. You lift up on the lever, move your seat, let go and it immediately is locked in place. That's it and it takes all of about 3 seconds! The lever for raising and lowering the chair is on the opposite side of the chair and works well. They are both very easy to use. Although, because I don't weigh enough, in order to get the chair to go down from about halfway up, I have to hook my feet under the wheel base and 'Pull' myself down to the lower position. No big deal and easy enough to do. As time goes by it might loosen up so I don't have to do this, but it doesn't bother me at all. I've dealt with far worse problems as a result of being small and I would much rather have it be too tight than too loose! The seat is VERY cushy compared to my other stool. Even with my bony butt I have not experienced any pain yet, even when sitting for long SRP appointments.I had been concerned this stool might not go low enough for me, as it claims to go down only to 22" and other chairs claim to go down to 19". This chair measures from the highest part of the seat whereas the other chairs must measure from the lowest part. Whatever the case, this chair goes lower than my other chair (That claimed 19")and low enough for me to be under my patient chair when the patient chair is in its lowest position. Being only 4'10" myself I can't imagine anyone needing it to go lower. I would never need it to go any lower and actually rarely use it at its very lowest position. It also goes higher than I would ever need it to go, for even those patients who think they can't recline at all.I had considered purchasing the 'In-line' type wheels for this chair after seeing many people state how wonderful they thought they were. I'm so glad I saved my money. These wheels are wonderful! They move and turn very easily and I have a sensation of gliding which is very nice. Almost fun! I barely have to put any pressure to move the stool However, in case you're worried the stool might move too easily while working on a patient, I have not had this problem even once. Until now it never even occurred to me that could happen. I feel very stable and safe while using sharp instruments. I also have no problem using the rheostat to polish or for the ultrasonic. Putting pressure with my foot does not cause my chair to move. The seat swivels very easily and smoothly, especially nice when turning back and forth from my patient, to my computer behind me to perio chart. The seat is covered with a sort of slightly textured synthetic material. I haven't really thought about it too much. It certainly seems acceptable to me. I find nothing objectionable about it and the texturing does not seem enough to impede cleaning it well between patients.I did not purchase the back for this chair, although it is available with a back if you want it. When I am working I know I would not use it. Even if waiting for the Dr. to come for an exam or writing up notes I don't see myself using it, especially since I tend to sit up straight all the time. The last thing I can think of to mention is the wheel base.It is considerably smaller than the wheel base width of my other chair and I am no longer tripping over it every time I turn around! It will also fit almost completely under my desk without any wheels sticking out. Since my patients only have a narrow corridor between my counter/desk and the patient chair, I was always having to warn them and watch to make sure my elderly patients, in particular, didn't trip. This is no longer an issue. Nor does the smaller wheel base seem to affect the stability of the chair. I have sat in it and leaned as far as I could in every direction. Not even a wobble. There is no way I could possibly make this chair tip over. This chair is perfect in almost every way! I am SO glad I bought it. I looked at over a dozen different western style saddle chairs on Amazon and could only find this one and one other that have a tilt function(But the other one had no reviews and it did not tilt as far as this one does) and I'm so thankful this is the one I chose!!!The best part is that, at the end of my work day, I'm no longer feeling exhausted with aching feet, calves and back/neck (due to standing all day). Or achy, painful thighs from trying to sit on my other saddle stool. Now I feel like I will be able to keep working, pain free, until my full retirement age. Maybe even longer!I have a very comfortable Herman Miller Aeron chair at work, and a standing desk. I spend hours every day typing notes for work, and found that even with a high-end chair and the option to stand, I was avoiding sitting and doing my work. I don't suffer from back pain, but I went to a chiropractor last year and he said, "Your spine is remarkably flat ... it's lost it's curvature." I know that my posture is lousy from years of sitting in office chairs. This saddle stool arrives in a nondescript box. Assembly is completely intuitive, and takes less than 5 minutes: no tools are required, and you won't need to consult the instructions. The main gas lift post is heavy and well-machined. The base is of cast aluminum, hollow on the underside, but with a satisfying heft and polish to it. The seat is not real leather, of course, but it has a matte pebble texture and appropriate thickness that make it feel like the real thing. Stitching is neat and uniform, and the fabric on the underside of the seat is neatly stapled. The height and tilt adjustment levers work smoothly. The tilt, in particular, is a great feature: it's important to be able to adjust your stool to your body and preferred sitting style. It doesn't rattle or feel cheap in any way, and looks and feels more expensive than it is. I upgraded the original casters to rollerblade wheels by Office Oasis, $35 (https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B01CTIG4GE/ref=ppx_yo_dt_b_asin_title_o01_s00?ie=UTF8&psc=1). I highly recommend this combination, as it provides a smoothness of movement that works really well, especially on wood floors. Now, for the real question: Is your butt ready to sit this way? Is your spine ready? If you've been sitting hunched over for years, the answer is likely NOT YET. There will be an adjustment period, and during this time you may experience the 2xhome stool as "uncomfortable." I was initially alarmed by the amount of pressure I felt in my nether-regions when I first tried this stool. But over a few days I learned how to better distribute my weight, engaging my legs, core muscles, etc., and can now sit on it comfortably for much longer. The seat padding is more than adequate, and appropriate to its overall dimensions, but those looking to sink into inches and inches of deep padding will be disappointed. The only feature I would add would be some vertical springiness in the central gas lift, to give it some movement. But at this price point I know that's a lot to ask.Overall I'm very satisfied with this stool, so much so that I ordered a second one (w/ Rollerblade wheels) for my desk at home.UPDATE — 6/14/19Looks like I spoke too soon. The second stool arrived in completely different condition: 1) The levers to tilt and raise/lower the seat are both inoperable; 2) The seat is not securely attached to its bracket, with four bolts, as was the case with the first stool; 3) As a result, the seat wobbles back and forth, cannot be adjusted, and is unusable. I attempted to contact the seller via Amazon's feature for doing this, but after three days they haven't contacted me. I've submitted a refund request. Seems like these stools can be hit-or-miss in the quality department. The casters have a grove and the base curves...almost impossible to find the leverage and too to attach. I put an old padlock in the grove, stabilized the the legs with my feet and hit the padlock with a hammer. Crazy bit it worked.I love how comfortable this chair is! I generally work in a dental office so I know sitting in chairs for a long period of time. I bought this for home for lashing and love it! this chair is so comfortable and you can change the angle to fit your needs and the height.I am a dental hygienist, and I was looking for an affordable saddle chair. The cushion itself is comfortable for a full workday and the wheels glide easily. However, if I lean on it a certain way, it makes a loud clicking sound. The seat is quite wide, but I expected it. The front saddle portion is bulky and it sticks out a lot. I am always nervous I will hit my patients with the front of the chair. I was hoping I would love it and buy more chairs, but I think that will be my first and my last. I just don't like the clicking sound and how bulky the front is. On the upside, it was super easy to assemble and it actually is comfortable to sit on.I am a dental hygienist. After working for 20 years , I started experiencing some back problems. I have been trying different kinds of chairs by different companies, but nothing compares to this chair . It also much cheaper than the ones I have tried.Have been using this chair for about a month and already feeling so much better!I was skeptical as normal dental saddle chairs are a lot more expensive from suppliers, but this has been super comfortable, it tilts and you can adjust the height. Great for 8/9 hours of dental hygienist work!
